Before you start learning the fundamentals of rhythm, it is important that you experience the whole of rhythm in (at least) duple and triple meters. This process is is referred to as acculturation. In the same way that you listened to your native language for a whole year before you were ever expected to speak it.

Now that you have the sound of duple and triple in your ears and in your body, you are ready to engage in the upcoming lessons with a more accurate perspective.
Great videos, Andy! I like that walking in a curvy pathway and switching between MB and mb. Kept me on my ‘toes’! I’m going to try that with my students too. Thanks~
Haha! Thanks, Drema.
This is great. The concept of internalizing rhythm with the WHOLE body instead of one area is pure genius!!. Thank you!
Thanks, Darryl! Credit for my rhythm pedagogy goes to Ed Gordon and all of his MLT students! I stand on the shoulders of many giants. Cheers!
