Musicianship Level 1

Because music is primarily an aural art, proficiency must first be attained aurally. 

Musicianship Level 1 is achieved when one can audiate the aural foundations of music.

    • Macrobeats
    • Microbeats
    • Divisions
  • Major and Minor tonalities
    • Resting Tone
    • Tonic and Dominant (I & V) harmonic functions
    • Basic melodic patterns

Tonal Lesson Trajectory

This course is divided into 2 sections: Harmonic and Melodic. There are a total of 12 lessons.


By completing this course, you should be able to:

  • name and sing the resting tone in Major and Minor Tonality.
  • name, sing, and identify the primary harmonic functions (I and V) in major and minor tonality.
  • name and sing chord roots of I and V chords in major and minor tonality.
  • name and sing Basic Melodic patterns in major and minor tonalities.

Rhythm Lesson Trajectory

This course contains 8 lessons.

By completing this course, you should be able to:

  • move with Continuous Flow in Space
  • move to Macrobeats and Microbeats in Duple and Triple meters
  • name and chant Macrobeats, Microbeats and Divisions using solfege syllables in Duple and Triple meters
  • improvise rhythm patterns in Duple and Triple meters
